The Metaverse Isn’t a New Concept
The Metaverse Isn’t a New Concept!😮 Let’s Give the Metaverse and Web Founders the Proper Credit They Deserve 👍
The victor writes and rewrites history all the time, and the metaverse and the web are no exception. Virtual reality and the metaverse are on the verge of becoming ubiquitous. Everything, including technology, hardware and supporting infrastructure for the metaverse continues to accelerate.
However, amid this sprint, the pioneers of the metaverse concept are being overshadowed by ongoing media announcements across the industry. The metaverse pioneers who created the concept, as well as the vision, are currently being overlooked and left behind.
Let us pay tribute to the pioneers and their contributions in the early days of the metaverse timeline:
➡️ 1989 – The metaverse and the progression to web3 would not have been conceivable without Tim Berners-Lee, a computer scientist best recognized for developing the World Wide Web.
➡️ 1992 – In his book Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson, a science fiction writer, coined the phrase Metaverse.
➡️ 2002 – Michael Grieves at the University of Michigan, was the first to coin the term “Digital Twin,” which he first called Doubleganger.
➡️ 2003 – Second Life, a user-defined online virtual environment with virtual avatars, was introduced by Philip Rosedale.
➡️ 2009 – Satoshi Nakamoto is a fictitious name for a person or group engaged in the development of Bitcoin and the first blockchain database, which served as a proof of concept for a decentralized future.
➡️ 2013 – The founders of Oculus, the virtual reality headset company best known for the Oculus Rift and which began the wearable revolution, are Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov, and Nate Mitchell.
➡️ 2014 – Kevin McCoy and Anil Dash created Quantum, the first known “NFT.” McCoy’s wife, Jennifer McCoy, developed a video clip for it, which was sold for $1.47 million in June 2021.
The internet and the metaverse are both revolutionary inventions that have transformed human society. The internet has transformed the way we communicate and the metaverse will transform the way we live, work, play and learn in the future.
The Metaverse and the Web would not exist today if it weren’t for them! 🙏
