Stop aiming to compete with AI-art, and instead, aim to create a movement

Is it any surprise that an AI-generated image was used to win an art competition? Jason M. Allen of Pueblo West, Colorado, did not create his entry with a brush or a lump of clay. He made it with MidJourney, an artificial intelligence programme that converts text lines into hyper-realistic graphics, and it won this year’s Colorado State Fair’s annual art competition.

With the boom of keyword based Ai-art, such as MidJourney and DALL-E, that transforms fantasy into reality, enterprising everyday people are creating impressive portfolios of spectacular AI-generated artworks in seconds that are becoming impossible to distinguish between what is created by a human and what is created by AI. AI-generated artworks are becoming popular among virtual galleries and NFT marketplaces, but a large number of these assets are not being properly valued, which will lead to further pricing volatility among investors and speculators.

But is the art world missing the inevitable arrival of AI? What can creators do to improve their chances against AI?

Artists, designers, curators, and collectors frequently devote their entire attention to their work while failing to create a community. However, building a community is only the beginning; you must also create a movement around these artworks.

Although the key to creating a movement around your artwork is unique to each person, it all boils down to your actions and active involvement. A movement is something that people actively participate in. They get involved, voice their opinions, and generate publicity for both themselves and the movement. Any type of social movement begins with a committed, passionate group of people willing to make a commitment to see the movement succeed.

These individuals may or may not be well-known, but they will be at the heart of the movement. As the movement expands, these individuals may interact with other groups and become a part of a larger movement. A collective movement is made up of people working together to create a more powerful message than if they worked alone.

Unfortunately, AI is creating mind blowing artwork faster than humans can! So, stop aiming to compete with AI, and instead, aim to create a movement. Challenge yourself, create art that makes people stop and think, ask questions and make connections.
