Metaverse to Create New Business Opportunities for Digital Supply Chain and Industry 4.0

Virtual reality has been around for a while, but its potential has only just begun to be realized. We are now witnessing the emergence of the Metaverse that enables us to step into the virtual world and interact with people, places and products in ways never seen before. It will eventually be used for all aspects of our lives – from shopping to education, to health care and entertainment.

Using the power of blockchain technology, the Metaverse aims to create an ecosystem that allows for the exchange of digital assets (non-fungible token (NFT) assets like art, collectibles, fashion, and real estate) through a decentralized “digital identity” system that allows for the trust and value of real-world objects and business activities to be transacted securely. The success of Metaverse lies in its ability to create a bridge between the digital world and the physical world, empowering business processes and the daily lives of individuals.

Virtual reality is being used in almost every field imaginable and is fast becoming one of the most disruptive technologies in history. It will soon be a staple feature in the everyday life and especially a new hyper-growth platform for commerce for almost everyone. The Metaverse is projected to be worth $700 billion by 2030 for the fashion/luxury sector alone according to Morgan Stanley.

As it becomes more common to step out of our everyday lives and into virtual worlds and make everyday purchases, we will soon need major changes and fluid integrations to our supply networks to meet on-demand product fulfillment and smart close proximity manufacturing (Industry 4.0) to produce personalized products to individual consumers requirements.

The supply chain and on-demand manufacturing designed to meet the demands of the Metaverse will have a critical influence on the future adoption and investment of all smart digital supply chain and manufacturing technology by small, medium-sized and large businesses. As with any new technology, the more people that use it the faster it tends to develop. But we are still at the early stages of the Metaverse movement.

We will ultimately see a multi-tier, on-demand, flexible and cross-ecosystem supply chain built alongside multi-material 3D printing technology and distribution that is geared towards product customization in the Metaverse. This would be quite revolutionary and it should make quite the difference in many people’s lives by improving speed to market, service effectiveness and this change of business models would create more incredible opportunities for business owners and startups to capitalize on and do even more.
